Step-by-step explanation:

Equation of line AB = y + 1 = 6/4(x-2)

gradient of this line = 3/2

gradient of line perpendicular to it

= -2/3

Equation of line passing through ( 4,1) perpendicular to AB

y - 1 = -2/3 ( x - 4)

above equations gives

2 = 3/2 x - 3 + 2/3 x - 8/3

=> x = -17/3 × 6/13 = -34/13

y = -73/13

Let the ratio is k:1 in which foot divides AB

=> -34/13 = (6k + 2)/(k + 1)

=> -34k - 34 = 78 k + 26

=> -112 k = 60

=> k = -60/112 = -15/28

Hence foot of perpendicular divides AB externally

in the ratio 15:28
