(2+√3)^2 + (2-√3)^2

4+3+4√3+4+3-2√3

7+7=14

a = 2 +  \sqrt{3}  \\ b = 2 -  \sqrt{3}

 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  =  {(2 +  \sqrt{3} )}^{2}  + (2 -  { \sqrt{3}) }^{2}  \\  = 4 + 3 + 4 \sqrt{3}  + 4 + 3 - 4 \sqrt{3}  \\  = 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 \\  = 14
