GIVEN:

a=2+√3

TO FIND:

a-1/a

SOLUTION:

a=2+√3

1/a=1/2+√3

RATIONALISING THE DENOMINATOR WE GET

=1/2+√3×2-√3/2-√3

=2-√3/(2)²-(√3)²

{(a+b)(a-b)=a²-b² here a=2 b=√3}

=2-√3/4-3

2-√3/1

1/a=2-√3

a-1/a=

=2+√3-2+√3

=√3+√3

=2√3

a-1/a=2√3 (ANSWER)
