a = 2 + √3

1/a = 1/(2 + √3) * (2 - √3)/(2 - √3)

1/a = (2 - √3)/(4 - 3)

1/a = (2 - √3)

1/2a = (2 - √3)/2

a - 1/2a = (2 + √3) - (2 - √3)/2

a - 1/2a = (4 + 2√3 - 2 + √3)/2

a - 1/2a = (2 + 3√2)/2

a - 1/2a = 1 + 3√2/2
