1/a= 1/2+$\sqrt{3}$
Therefore, 1/a=$\sqrt{3}$-2
a-1/a=2+$\sqrt{3}$-($\sqrt{3}$-2)
        =2+$\sqrt{3}$-$\sqrt{3}$+2
        =4
