5

A=2i+8j+7k

B=3i+2k

A+B=?

x-axis=

j=0

k=0

I=1

2i+8j+7k+3i+2k

5i+8j+9k

x-axis.....

5×1+8×0+9×0

=5

this is your answer

The component of (A+B) along the x-axis is 5. (Option A is the correct answer)

Given,

A = 2i + 8j + 7k

B = 3i + 2k

To Find,

The component of (A+B) along the x-axis

Solution,

We have been given two vectors A = 2i + 8j + 7k and B = 3i + 2k

We now have to find the vector (A+B)

To find (A+B) we can simply add A and B, however, like quantities only will be added together (i.e, 'i' component will be added to 'i' component only)

(A+B) = A + B

(A+B) = (2i + 8j + 7k) + (3i + 2k)

(A+B) = (2i + 3i) + (8j) + (7k + 2k)

(A+B) = (5i) + (8j) + (9k)

(A+B) = 5i + 8j + 9k

Now, in vectors -

'i' → Component along the x-axis

'j' → Component along the y-axis

'k' → Component along the z-axis

Thus, the component of (A+B) along the x-axis is 5.
