putting value of a in given equation,

we get,

 = 3 +   \sqrt{8}  - 1 \div 3  +  \sqrt{8}  \\  = 9 + 8 - 1 \div 3 +  \sqrt{8 } \\  = 16 \div 3 +  \sqrt{8}  \\   = 16 \div 3  +  \sqrt{8}  \times 3 -  \sqrt{8}  \times 3 -  \sqrt{8}  \\  = 16(3 -  \sqrt{8} ) \div 9 - 8 \\  = 16(3 -  \sqrt{8}) \div 1 \\  = 16(3 -  \sqrt{8)} \: or \: 48 - 16 \sqrt{8}

Hope it helps you!!!
