Given: a = - (-4),b = - (-12) and c = 8.

To find: Verify if a ÷{b ÷ c} is equal to (a ÷ b)÷c.

Solution:

  • Now, we have given two two terms, and the value of a, b and c.
  • So lets calculate the value of a ÷ {b ÷ c}
  • So putting the values of a, b and c in the above equation, we get:

              - (-4) ÷ { - (-12) ÷ 8 }

  • Now solving this further, we get:

              4 ÷ {12 ÷ 8}

              4 ÷ {3/2}

  • Now, as we have 3/2 in the denominator of 4, so we can write 3/2 in numerator by taking reciprocal of 3/2, that is 2/3, So:

              4 x 2/3 = 8/3

  • Now, lets calculate the value of {a ÷ b} ÷ c.
  • So putting the values of a, b and c in the above equation, we get:

              { - (-4) ÷ - (-12) } ÷ 8

              { 4 ÷ 12 } ÷ 8

              {1/3} ÷ 8

  • Now, as we have 8 in the denominator of 1/3, so we can write 8 in numerator by taking reciprocal of 8, that is 1/8, So:

              {1/3} x 1/8 = 1/24

  • So 8/3 is not equal to 1/24.

Answer:

                 Hence, a ÷ {b ÷ c} ≠ {a ÷ b} ÷ c
