for a^2 use (x+y)^2 = (x^2) + (y^2) + 2.x.y
and b^2=1/4.
it may help.

a = 5+2√6 = 9.89897948557 OR 9.9

b= 1/2

 a²+b²

9.92+1/22.

9.9 squared = 98.01

1/2 squared = 0.25

=98.26
