question should be a+1/a
1/a = 1/(7+4√3)
rationalizing it
1/(7+4√3) = 1×(7-4√3)/(7+4√3)×(7-4√3)
                = (7-4√3)/(49-48)
                =(7-4√3)
so,
a +1/a = (7+4√3) +(7-4√3) = 14

a=7+4√3
a+a/1=a+a=7+4√3+7+4√3
⇒14+8√3.
