The value of a + b is equal to 19.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

a, 8, 11 and  b are in AP.

Here, first term = a, second term = 8, third term = 11 and fourth term = b

To find, the value of (a + b) = ?

We know that,

Common difference(d) = Second term - First term = Third term - Second term= Fourth term - Third term

∴ 8 - a = 11 - 8 = b - 11

⇒ 8 - a = 3 = b - 11

∴ 8 - a = 3   and 3 = b - 11

8 - a = 3

⇒ a = 8 - 3 = 5

Also, 3 = b - 11

⇒ b = 3 + 11 = 14

∴ The value of (a + b) = 5 + 14 = 19

Thus, the value of a + b is equal to 19.
