If a and ß are the roots of the quadratic equation y2-2y-7=0, find the value of a2+beta2

alpha^2+beta^2=(alpha+beta)^2-2*alpha*beta

(-(-2/1))^2-2*(-7/1)

=(2/1)^2-2(-7)

=4+14

=18
