QUESTION:-

If ∠A and ∠B are acute angles such that cos A = cos B, then show that ∠ A = ∠B.

ANSWER:-

As they are both acute angles, take two right angled triangles ACD and BCE.

The point C has the right angle.

Cos = the ratio of the adjacent side and the hypotenuse.

As the CosA=CosB, the ratios are equal for the 2 triangles.

They also have one angle C equal.

We can thus prove that the two triangles are similar.

And by the rules of similarity of triangles, all corresponding angles of the triangles must be equal. Thus, <A=<B
