The least value of n(AUB) will be x or y. It depends which set is bigger.

if x > y. Then least value of n(AUB)  will be x if all elements of B are already contained as a subset of A. [ie B ⊂ A]

The greatest value is x + y. if A and B are disjoint sets. (ie  A ⋂ B  = ϕ)
