Explanation : We know that the sum of roots of a quadratic equation of general form ax²+bx+c=0 is

-b/a

so in the eq x²+ax+b=0

sum of the roots= -a/1 ie -a

Given is that the roots of equation are a and b

therefore a+b =-a
