2x²+5x-3=0

A quadratic equation is in the form of ax²+bx+c=0 and a and b are the roots of the quadratic equation

To find the value of $1/a+1/b$

Solution:

2x²+5x-3=0

⇒2x²+(6-1)x-3=0

⇒2x²+6x-x-3=0

⇒2x(x+3)-1(x+3)=0

⇒$(2x-1) (x+3)=0$

Either,                        Or,

$2x-1=0$                    $x+3=0$        

2x = 1                           ∴x = b= -3

∴x = a= 1/2

Now,

$1/a+1/b$

=1/1/2+1/-3

=1×2-1/3

=2-1/3

=6-1/3

=5/3

Hence, $5/3$ is the value of  $1/a+1/b$.
