EXPLANATION

  • GIVEN

a and b are the zeroes of polynomial

x^2 - 5x + p

such that,

a - b = 1

TO FIND VALUE OF P.

According to the question

sum of zeroes of polynomial = a + b = -b/a = 5

products of zeroes of polynomial = ab = c/a = p

Therefore,

a + b = 5 .....(1)

GIVEN = a - b = 1 ....(2)

From equation (1) and (2) we get,

2a = 6

a = 3

put the value of a = 3 in equation (1)

we get,

a + b = 5

3 + b = 5

b = 2

Therefore,

ab = p

3 X 2 = p

p = 6

Hence, value of p = 6
