Answer :-

Given :-

  • A and B are two consecutive number.
  • A × B = 240

To Find :-

  • Value of B

Solution :-

Let A be x.

As A and B are consecutive number,

B will be x + 1

According to the question :-

→ A × B = 240

→ x × ( x + 1 ) = 240

→ x² + x = 240

→ x² + x - 240 = 0

→ x² + 16x - 15x - 240 = 0

→ x ( x + 16 ) - 15 ( x + 16 ) = 0

→ ( x - 15 ) ( x + 16 ) = 0

  • x = 15 , - 16

→ A = 15 or - 16

→ B = x + 1

→ B = 15 + 1 = 16

→ B = - 16 + 1 = - 15

Value of B = 16 , - 15

QuestioN :

If A and B are two consequtive number  and their multiplication is 240 then  find the value of B ?

GiveN :

  • A and B are two consecutive number.
  • A × B = 240

To FiNd :

The value of B ?

ANswer :

The value of b =  −16 , −15 , or  15 , 16

SolutioN :

\sf let,

\sf The\: first \:consecutive\: integer\: is \: x.

\sf So \:the\: second \:consecutive \:integer\: is\: (x+1)

\sf According \:to\: the\: question,

\sf x(x+1)=240

\sf or, \: x^{2} +x=240

\sf or,\: x^2+x-240=0

\sf or, x^2+16x-15x-240=0

\sf or, \: x(x+16)-15(x+16)=0

\sf or,\: (x+16)\:(x-15)=0

\sf So, \:either \:x+16=0

\sf hence,\: x=\:-16

\sf Or,

\sf x-15=0

\sf so, \: x=15

\sf Now,\: if \:x\:=\:-16

\sf The\: first \:consecutive\: integer\: is \: -16

\sf So\: the \:second\: consecutive\: integer \:is \:(-16+1)=-15

\sf Again, \:if \: x=15

\sf The\: first\: consecutive \:integer\: is\: 15

\sf So \:the\: second \:consecutive \:integer \:is\: (15+1)=16

\sf So, \:the \:consecutive \:integers\: are\: -16 , -15 , or \:15 ,\: 16

∴Hence, The value of b =  −16 , −15 , or  15 , 16
