• If a and b are two positive integers and a > 0.
• b is a factor of a.
• Lets take it with an example

       a=12   b=3

      so 3 is the factor of 12

      and the HCF of 3 and 12 is 3.

• hence 3 cannot have factor greater than itself so it is the HCF
• So, b is the HCF of a and b.
