Answer:

for any real number k

(a+b) ^k = binomial expansion

because

ab = ba , a and b are commute

for example if k= 2

then

(a+b) ^2= (a+b) (a+b) = a^2 + ab + ba +b^2

now ab = ba

= a^2+2ab +b^2

where a and b are matrices of same order
