Given :  a and b are whole numbers  which satisfy the equation 3a+7b =87

To Find  :  numbers of ordered pairs (a,b)

Solution:

3a+7b =87

=> 7b = 87 - 3a

=> 7b = 3(29 - a)

=> b = 3m

  and 29 - a  =  7n

a  , b are whole numbers hence

a  can be  1 ,  8 , 15  , 22 ,  29

a = 1  =>  b  = 12

a  = 8  =>   b = 9

a = 15 => b = 6

a = 22 => b  = 3

=> a = 29 => b  = 0

Hence  (  1 , 12 ) , ( 8 , 9) , ( 15 , 6) , ( 22 , 3)  and (   29 , 0) are the order pairs

Hence 5 ordered pairs
