x²-(sum of roots)x+product of roots

let a and b be the two zeroes

2x^2-7x+3

the product is 6  and the sum is -7

so the no. are -1 and -6

=2x^2-1x-6x+3

2x (x-1) - 3 (x-1)          (taking out the common factor)

=(2x-3)(x-1)

so the zeroes are  3/2 and 1

now we have to find a^2+b^2

(3/2)^2+1^2

9/4+1

(9+4)/4

13/4
