Answer:

here,

a+b =10

a= 10 -b-------------------------------1

and

ab =16 (given)

ie,   (10- b)b =16

10b -b²=16

or  b²-10b +16 =0

factorising,

b²-2b-8b +16

=b(b-2) - 8(b-2)

=(b-8) (b-2)

therefore b=8,2

a=2,8   ( applying in equation 1)

if a =2 and b=8,

then a*a+b*b =2 x2 +8x8= 4+64= 68

if a=8 and b=2

then a*a+b*b = 8 x 8 +2x 2=68

hope it helps...
