given....a+b= 12

ab= 32

using identity- (a+b)²=a² + 2ab + b²

OR

a² + b² = (a+b)² - 2ab

putting value of "a+b" and "ab"

therefore, a² + b² = (12)² - 2 × 32

= 144 - 64

= 80
