Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

a-b=2....(1)

ab=8...(2)

8/b=a

8/b-b=2

8-b^2=2

b^2+2b-8=0

b^2+4b-2b-8=0

b(b+4)-2(b+4)=0

(b-2)(b+4)=0

b=2; -4

put the value in (1)

a=8/2; a=4                       ;           a=8/-4; a=-2

THEREFORE

a^2+b^2=(4)^2+(2)^2=20
