a-b=4
a+b=6
add the two equations
a-b+a+b=10
2a=10
a=5
similarly find. the value of b by putting in any of given equations
b=1
a2+b2=(a+b)whole square - 2ab
=(5+1)whole square- 10
=36-10
=26
