If a + b = 4 and ab = -12, find (1) a - b (ii) a^2 - b^2.

 a + b = 4 \\  {(a + b)}^{2}  =  {4}^{2}  \\  {a}^{2}  + 2ab  +  {b}^{2}  = 16 \\  {a}^{2}  - 2ab +  {b}^{2}   +  4ab = 16 \\  {(a - b)}^{2}  =   - 4ab + 16 \\  {(a - b)}^{2}  =(  - 4 \times  - 12 )+ 16 \\  {(a - b)}^{2}  = 48 + 16 \\  {(a - b)}^{2}  = 64 \\ a - b = 8
 {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}   \\ (a + b)(a - b) \\ (4)(8) \\ 32
