Answer:

a+b=4 ab=-12

ab=-12

then in a+b=4

a=b-4

put in ab=-12

(b-4)b=-12

b2-4b+12=0

b2+6b-2b+12=0

b(b+6)-2(b+6)=0

(b+6)(b-2)=0

b=-6,2

then a+b=4

a+2=4 , a-6=4

a=2 , a=4+6=10

then a-b=2-(-6)=8

and a-b =10-2=8
