GIVEN

a:b = 5:7

b:c = 14:15

TO FIND :- a:c

SOLUTION

a:b = 5:7

=> a/b = 5/7

=> a = 5b/7 ... eq.01

b:c = 14:15

=> b/c = 14/15

=> c/b = 15/14

=> c = 15b/14 ...eq.02

Now,

a:c = a/c

= 5b/7 ÷ 15b/14

= 5b/7 × 14/15b

= 2/3

Hence a:c = 2:3 (ANS)

ALTER :-

a:b = 5:7 and b:c = 14:15

a/b = 5:7 and c/b= 15:14

Dividing both equations,

a/b ÷ c/b = 5/7 ÷ 15/14

=> a/b × b/c = 5/7 × 14/15

=> a/c = 2/3

=> a:c = 2:3 (ANS)
