{\tt{\red{\underline{\large{Given}}}}}

  • a+b = √5
  • and a-b = √3

{\sf{\green{\underline{\large{To\:find}}}}}

  • a²+b²

{\sf{\pink{\underline{\Large{Explanation}}}}}

a+b = √5 ______(1)

a-b=√3 ________(2)

  • Solving it by Elimination method

a+b = √5 ______(1)

a-b=√3 ________(2)

________

2a=√5+√3

=>a=(√5+√3)/2

Putting the value in Equation 1

a+b = √5

=>(√5+√3)/2+b=√5

=>b= √5 - (√5+√3)/2

=>(√5-√3)/2

Now a²+b²

=>{(√5+√3)/2}² + {(√5-√3)/2}²

=>{8+2√15}/4 + {8-2√15}/4

=>16/4

=>4
