a+b=5
a-b=3
than a=4
and b=1 so=4*2+1*2=10

a+b=5 ....(1
a-b=3....(2
now from eq. (2
a=3+b...
now by putting the value fo a we get,
3+b+b=5
3+2b=5
2b=5-3
b=1...
and from eq...(2
a-1=3
a=3+1
a=4
:. a^2 + b^2 = 4^2 + 1^2
= 16 + 1
= 17
