(a+b)2 = a2+b2+2ab
(5) = a2 +b2 + 2×2
25. = a2 + b2 + 4
25 -4 =a2 +b2

Here is your answer
a + b = 5

ab = 2

Now Squaring both sides we get

(a + b) {}^{2}  = 5 {}^{2}  \\  {a}^{2} +  {b}^{2}   + 2ab = 25 \\  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  + 2 \times 2 = 25 \\  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  = 25 - 4 \\  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  = 21
