The value of a² + b² = 21

Given :

a + b = 5 and ab = 2

To find :

The value of a² + b²

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given data

Here it is given that

a + b = 5 and ab = 2

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of a² + b²

(a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²

⇒ 5² = a² + b² + 2ab

⇒ 25 = a² + b² + 2 × 2

⇒ 25 = a² + b² + 4
