 Given \: a + b = 5 \: --(1) \: and \: ab = 6 \: --(2)

 The \: value \: of \: (a-b) =\pm \sqrt{ (a+b)^{2} - 4ab }

 = \pm \sqrt{ 5^{2} - 4 \times 6 }

 = \pm \sqrt{ 25 -24 }

 = \pm \sqrt{ 1 }

 = \pm 1

Therefore.,
