\textbf{ Hello Mate! }

( a - b ) = 6

( a - b )^2 = 6^2

a^2 + b^2 - 2ab = 36

As given a^2 + b^2 = 42

42 - 2ab = 36

- 2ab = 36 - 42

ab = - 6 / - 2 or 3

Hope it helps
