Step-by-step explanation:

In question it is given that :a+b=7

from here , we can find the value of a by:

a=7-b

it is also given: ab=12

putting the value of a

(7-b)×b=12

7b-b^2=12

shifting it to the right hand side

0=b^2-7b+12

0=b^2-4b-3b+12

0=b(b-4)-3(b-4)

0=(b-4)(b-3)

from here we get two values of b

b-4=0 and b-3=0

b=4 and b=3

a=7-b=7-4=3 and also you can take another value of b

now putting the value of a and b

(3)^2-12+(4)^2

9-12+16

25-12

=13 ans.
