we have to use the identity

(a+b)²= a²+b² +2ab

a²+b²=(a+b)²-2ab

= (7)²- 2(5)

= 49-10

= 39

Answer: 39

Step-by-step explanation:

By taking the formula (a+b)square = a square + b square +2ab

By substituting the values :

                                    (7)square     = a square + b square + 2*5

                                                    49 = a square + b square + 10

                                               49-10 = a square + b square

                                                    39 = a square + b square
