Answer:

Given, a

2

+b

2

=74 and ab=35

We know that, (a+b)

2

=a

2

+b

2

+2ab ... (i)

By putting the given values in equation (i),

(a+b)

2

=74+2x35

(a+b)

2

=74+70

(a+b)

2

=144

a+b=

144

a+b=±12

So, the value of a+b is ±12.

Taking b in common-

a + b( 1 + a) + 1 = 35

Take a+1 common-

(a + 1)(b + 1)=35

Possible when a = 34 and b = 0 ( or vice versa)

a + b = 34

Or a=4 and b=6 ( or vice versa)

a + b = 10
