Hey there!
We know that, If we join two distinct points on a circle, it is called a chord.
Hence, AB is called a chord given that A, B are two distinct points.
Also, We know that, Diameter is a longest chord passing through Centre .Diameter is the a chord passing through the centre of circle.
Also, We know that The longest chord is Diameter. But From the question, AB is not the diameter so, It's length is less than Diameter.
Let d be the diameter, and x be the length of AB,
x < d
Now, Let Set A , be the set of all possible valued of x.
So, Now, Maximum value of AB is the maximum value in Set A.
AB = Max[A]

Hey there! ☺️
Thanks for your Brainliest Question
[ The given question is from the topic Circles]
If A, B are two distinct points on the circumference of the circle. A line is drawn joining them and from the centre of the circle one more line is drawn.
1) What is line segment AB called?
Ans: If the line joining A and B passes through the centre (x,y) then the line segment is called as the diameter of the circle and if not, then the line segment AB is known as the chord of the circle.
2) What is the maximum value of the line segment AB given that it is not passing through Centre?
Ans: The points AB when joined form a chord which is always ≤ diameter. As it can be equal to it. It would be just beside the diameter. They must not be same so it must be the diameter.The maximum value of the chord always will be less than the length of a diameter.
