Given: A,B,C are collinear points,d(A,C)=10,d(C,B)=3,

To  find :  distance AB.

Solution:

d(A,C)=10 d(C,B)=3,

Case 1  C is between A and B

=> d ( A , B) = d(A.C) + d(C.B)

=> d(A , B) = 10  + 3

=> d (A , B) = 13

A   ---  10 -----C  ----3 ----- B

  -------------13---------------

Case 2  A is between B and C

=> d ( C , B) = d(A.B) + d(A.C)

=> 3 =  d(A.B)   + 10

=> d (A , B) = - 7

distance can not be negative hence this is not possible case

Case 3  B is between A and C

=> d ( A , C) = d(A.B) + d(B.C)

=> 10 =  d(A.B)   + 3

=> d (A , B) =  7

A   ---  7 -----B  ----3 ----- C

   -------------10---------------

d (A , B) can be 7 or 13
