Given that, a, b, c is in A.P. Then

As they are in A.P. so their common difference will be constant.

b - a = d and c - b = d

∴ b - a = c - b

2b = a + c

∴ b = a+c/2

Thus the required arithmetic mean (A.M) of two numbers 'a' and 'b' is a+b/2

Hope this helps you

If a, b, c are in A.P, then.

So, b is called the arithmetic mean of a and c.
