Number of bacteria = 55000

Given:

The length of a bacterium = 1 micrometer

Length of the index finger = 5.5 centimeter

To find:

Number of bacteria can you place end-to-end on the finger?

Solution:

Given length of bacterium = 1 micrometer

Length of the index finger = 5.5 centimeters

To find the number of bacterium convert length of the finger into micrometers

As we know 1 centimeter = 10,000 micrometers

⇒ 5.5 centimeter = 5.5 × 10,000 = 55000 micrometers

No. of bacterium can be fitted in 55000 micrometers of finger

= Length of finger/ Length of bacteria

= 55000 micrometers/ 1 micrometer  = 55000

Therefore, Number of bacteria = 55000
