GIVEN:-

  • A ball is dropped from a height of 500 metres

TO CALCULATE:-

Time taken and velocity when it covers half distance

EXPLANATION:-

Total height=500 metres

Half height=250 metres

So let's apply 2nd equation to calculate the time:-

\boxed{\bold{S=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2}}

Here u=0  (free fall)

So the 2nd equation will be:-

\sf\;S=\frac{1}{2}at^2

a=10 m/s²

S=250 metres

t=to be calculated

\sf\;250=\frac{1}{2}10\times t^2\\\\250=5t^2\\\\50=t^2\\\\t=\sqrt{50}\\\\t=5\sqrt{2}

So the time is 5√2 second

Now let's calculate final velocity using 1 st equation of motion:-

v=u+at

u=0 m/s     (free fall)

So for  1st equation will be

v=at

a=10 m/s²

t=5√2 s

v=at

v=10×5√2

v=50√2

So the velocity will me 50√2 m/s and time will be 5√2 second
