The percentage loss of gravitational force acting on the body will be 36 %

Given-

  • Height from the earths surface = 1600 km
  • Radius of the earth = 6400 km

We know that

gh = gs/ (1+h/Re)²

where gh is the gravity at h height from the surface of earth and gs is the gravity at the surface of the earth and Re is the radius of the earth.

From the given data it is very clear that

h = Re/4

So, gh = gs/ (1+1/4)²

gh = gs. 16/25

So, decrease of gravity is

gs-gh = 9/25 × gs

Percentage is = 9/25 × 100 = 36 %

So the force decreases is 36 % because force is directly proportional to gravity.
