Question :-
If a body is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 36 km/hr covers a height of 200 meters in 10 seconds . Find g
Answer :-
Given :-
If a body is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 36 km/hr covers a height of 200 meters in 10 seconds .
Required to find :-
- Value of g ?
Equation used :-
v² - u² = 2as
Solution :-
Given data :-
If a body is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 36 km/hr covers a height of 200 meters in 10 seconds .
we need to find the value of g ?
So,
From the given data we can conclude that ;
- Initial velocity of the body = 36 km/hr
- Height = 200 meters
- Time = 10 seconds .
Since, the time , height are in meters , seconds where as the initial velocity is in km/hr .
So,
Let's convert the initial velocity from km/hr into m/s
we know that
1 km/hr = 5/18 m/s
This implies ;
36 km/hr = ? m/s
=> 36 x 5/18
=> 2 x 5
=> 10 m/s
Hence,
- Initial velocity = 10 m/s
Using the equation of motion ;
i.e. s = ut + ½ at²
Since, we need to find the value of g
where g is known to be as acceleration due to gravity .
So, the equation of motion thus becomes as ;
s = ut + ½ gt²
200 = 10 x 10 + ½ x g x 10 x 10
200 = 100 + ½ x g x 10 x 10
200 = 100 + ½ x g x 100
200 = 100 + g x 50
200 = 100 + 50g
200 - 100 = 50g
100 = 50g
50g = 100
g = 100/50
g = 2 m/s²
The value of g is positive when the motion of the stone is in the direction of acceleration due to gravity .
The value of acceleration due to gravity ( g ) is negative when the motion of the stone is opposite due to g .
