If a body of mass 200 g falls from a height 200 m and its
total potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, at
the point of contact of the body with the surface, then
decrease in potential energy of the body at the contact is:
(g = 10 m/s^2)

Answer:

Mass m = 200g = 0.2kg

Height = 200m

g = 10m/s^2

Potential energy PE = mgh

= 0.2 x 10 x 200 = 400J

When the ball hits ground all the potential energy gets converted to kinetic energy KE according to conservation of energy.

h = 0, when the ball hits the ground.

PE = mgh = 0.2 x 10 x 0 = 0J

As PE got converted to KE

KE = 400J.

Therefore lost PE = 400J
