Uh= -GMem/ Re + h
If h = Re » Uh = -GMem/ +2Re = - mgRe/2
& the gravitational potential energy on the surface of the earth is Us = - GMem / Re
So change in potential energy ∆U = Uh - Us
= -GMem/2Re + GMem/Re = GMem/2Re
∆U = mgRe/2
it means that to move a body of a mass m from the surface of earth to a height h = Re, the energy required is GMem /2Re = mgRe/2
