distance=8+6=14m
and displacement is√( 8²+6²)=√100=10
and displacement is√( 8²+6²)=√100=10

distance travelled = distance from a to b + distance from c to d
=> 8m +6m => 14 m
displacement is the shortest distance between initial point and final point .
=> therefore , we can draw a hypotenuse from "a" to "c"
=> using Pythagoras theorem ,
sum of square of arms of a triangle = hypotenuse²
=> here ,
(distance from a to b)² + (distance from b to c)² = displacement²
=>(8)²+(6)² = displacement ²
=> 64+36 = displacement²
=> 100m² = displacement ²
=> √100m² = displacement
=> 10 m = displacement
hope this helps
