Question :

  • If a book of 100 g is moved horizontally on a table top by applying a force of 2 N and the work done is 1 joule find the displacement.

Given :

  • mass of the book= 100 g = 0.1 kg
  • Force applied = 2 N
  • work done = 1 J

Solution :

we know that ,

 \displaystyle \star{ \boxed  {\pink{w = f \times s}}}

here ,

  • w = work done
  • f = force applied
  • s = displacement

Substituting the given values in the above equation we get ,

  \displaystyle{ \implies{1 = 2 \times s}}

  \displaystyle{ \boxed {\red{s = 0.5 \: m}}}

Given ,

Force (F) = 2 Newton

Work (W) = 1 Joule

We know that ,

The product of force and displacement is called work done

 \boxed{ \sf{Work \:  done = F × S}}

Thus ,

1 = 2 × S

S = 1/2

S = 0.5 m

Therefore ,

  • The displacement is 0.5 m
