A Bowl formed from a steel piece can float in water due to Archimedes's principle.

  • According to Archimedes's principle ,a body can float if the weight of the body is equal to the amount of the liquid it displaces.
  • if you have a bulk steel, due to its higher density compared to the water, not enough amount of water is displaced to make it float. Hence, it sinks.
  • But, if the a bowl is made of the same steel, the bow floats because  it displaces more volume of water. it includes the volume of steel and the hollow volume.
  • So the weight of the water displaced will be equal to the weight of the metal, hence it floats.
